My father opened the book to the page my mother had marked, and began reading. “Joseph turned to Aslan, and - ”

“Who’s Joseph?”

“You are,” my dad said.

“No, who’s Joseph in the book?” My mother had been reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to me for more than a week now, and I knew there was no Joseph in it.

“Well, you just suddenly appeared in the story. Hasn’t that ever happened to you before?”

I rolled my eyes. “All right, go on,” I said.

“Joseph said to Aslan, ‘Where’s Rich?’” Rich was my best friend.

“Stop,” I ordered him. “Read me what’s really there.”
